Just out of curiosity as this is our first season, I am looking for a query on a specific rule / breach of rules.

If a team fields an inelligable player, what should the protocol of punishment be?
I had previously believed that the points should be awarded to the opposing team.
As it stands, NAFC are having to replay a game vs the team in question that broke these rules (albeit at the fiancial expence of the opposition).
In theory, we could now end up with a worse result than had previously been achieved? Which is surely punishment to us too?

Is this correct? Should the game be replayed?
Or should there be other protocols followed?

A team fielding an illegal player is usually fined with up to 3 points deducted. I am unsure of the circumstances but it isn't always the case that you replay a game if you had already won it, to avoid the very punishment you describe. Did you win the original game?

If a team is proven to have fielded an unregistered player the standard punishment adopted is a financial penalty and the deduction of 2 points.

In addition, if the team proven to have fielded an unregistered player gained points (win or draw) in that fixture the result is declared void, and expunged from the records of both clubs. The game is then rescheduled to be played at the expense of the defaulting club.

If the team proven to have fielded an unregistered player lost that fixture, the result is allowed to stand (the financial penalty and 2 points deduction is still applied)

The League specifically does not award points in any situation - they have to be gained on the field of play.

In theory, yes, you could end up with a worse result than before, but equally you could end up with a better result. You didn't gain 3 points first time, you may not do so second time At least you have that opportunity.but the defaulting club has still lost 2 points and suffered financially for the offence

No we lost the game 4-0, but for a team that was at the time bottom of the league to lost 4-0 to a team that has been scoring goals for fun all season, we could now end up with a worse goal difference than we had originally.

In what is a close title race that could come down to goal difference, this game being replayed could actually benefit the team in question.
Whereas us down the bottom end of the table could end up with our goal difference made worse, potentially resulting in us falling behind another team on GD.
Whereas if we were to recieve the points for the game, could make a substantial difference to our season.

Maybe but the defaulting team has been deducted 2 points.

You have another chance against them - think positive.

If the standard procedure is not to award points, I can appreciate that.
But to have the potential in the game to end up worse than we did originally seems to be a punishment for both teams.

Yes we could game from the game, but that is quite unlikely agaisnt a team that has won every game this season and is storming the league, vs a team struggling right at the bottom.
The fact that we could end up worse off just seems like we are potentially being punished as well.

But obviously if we go against the odds to pick up something from the game, that's a different story.

Thanks for your question and welcome to the Alliance Forum.

I have read your response with interest.

Taking your views to a logical conclusion, does this mean that if you improved the result in the replay, you would prefer the original result to stand? Shocked

The opposition have been punished to match the seriousness of the offence and you now get a second chance without the offending player taking part.

Be positive. Smile
