A Scunthorpe forward is clear on goal and well within the penalty area when a Wednesday defender challenges him and in so doing he plays the ball over the goal line and out of play.

The ref, James Linington, awards a penalty. there is uproar on and off the pitch but the ref insists. Eventually, he consults his Assistant and changes his mind to a round of applause.

He then gets the ball, goes to where the challenge took place and calls players together for a drop ball. Again protests but this time from the Scunthorpe players. He changes his mind and gives a corner.

Was he right? How should play have been restarted?

He had a good game apart from this incident and this Aussie Owl would give him a mark of 80 - on the other hand, we won cheers and he and his Assistants were wearing shirts in a fetching shade of Alliance orange.

the referee may change his mind on a decision so long as he hasnt restarted the game,,,,no stipulation on how many times he can change it,,,,just wonder if one of the assistants or 4th official told him he may be wrong in law to start with a drop ball,,,,dont have a problem with a corner at all....
