After last weeks 7-4 victory over Wigston United confidence was up as we prepared for the visit of Bulls Head Athletic, a new but clearly very good side looking to make there mark on the Alliance League.
Still without Bomma (Ankle), Matt Hillier (Knee), Dave Pierce (Groin) and Ian Gray away on Holiday, we were severly depleted at the back. Chris Keeling stepped into Centre Half with Ashley Willan who was playing his last game before scuttling back to Sheffield along with Joe Brown. Friar Lane stopper Joe Wakeling continued in goal with Soft Gaz, Chris Keeling, Ash Willan and James Pearce at the back. Skeems going with 3 in midfield playing himself with Lee Tyres, our 18 year old sensation and Steve Oliff and the front 3 were Joe Brown, Pete and Ryan Ogden who had scored 4 goals already this season. Lams and Kirk Holland were on the bench.
The game started with Magna immediately on the back foot, Bulls Head were slick and quick playing decisive balls and looking dangerous. Magna rarely threatened and any possesion we did get was wasted cheaply. An error by Skeems allowed Bulls Head to nip in and take the lead, a terrific shot into Joes bottom left hand corner, Joe had earlier made a great save from Gavin Mobbs.
Skeems clearly rattled by his error absolutely clattered into Mobbs from behind right in front of the travelling support, it was an awful tackle and deserved more than a telling off, Skeems got his due stick from the away end though with abuse spilled in all quarters.
Gradually however Magna got control of the game, Lee Tyres started to win his personal battle and Steve O was becoming more of an influence plus Skeems had nulified the threat from the dangerous number 7 on the Bulls Head left wing.
Eventually Magna levelled through Steve Oliff who danced around a couple of challenges before finishing well past the keeper. Joe Brown made it 2 soon after with a good finish and from a position of defeat Magna had turned it round to lead 2-1 at the break.
Skeems had to come of at half time as the tendonitis reared its ugly head with Kirk Holland replacing him.
The 2nd half started pretty evenly with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield but after a cross from Pete on the right the referee gave Magna a in-direct free kick in the area about 15 yards out slightly left of goal, bizarre decision but after a neat lay of from Pete, Ryan smashed it home giving Magna a 3-1 lead.
But Bulls Head never gave up and Magna switched off which we have a tendancy to do during games and from another debatable free kick it was crossed deep to the far post where a Bulls Head player was unmarked, he headed it across goal for Mobbs to tap in, it was now 3-2 and the momentum was with the visitors and they got there equaliser after a good work down the left ended with a superb headed goal past Joes left hand side and it was 3-3 and to be fair they looked like the team that was going to go on and win it.
However Magna showed great character but were gifted the 4th goal by the Bulls Head keeper, Ryan scuffed a shot from about 20 yards out but the keeper was slow getting down to it and it went underneath him and into the net but back came Bulls Head Athletic, showing what a resiliant side they are and will be in this division
Once again it came from our left hand side and the lad tucked it past the advancing Joe into the bottom corner 4-4.
The game was now really open with neither side settling for a draw and with Ryan as dangerous as ever he latched onto a through ball to take it round the keeper and put us back in front and this time there was to be no Bulls Head comeback. Ryan found a 6th with in a couple of minutes and then Kirk fired in an excellent shot across the keeper in the last minute to give us 7 goals for the 2nd week running.
2 weeks without leagues games now, lets see if we can get a cup run going
Thanks to Bulls Head for an excellent game, your lino is one of the funniest guys I have met on a Sunday Morning!!
